Many of the world’s surf fisheries reward anglers who can cast big baits significant distance, and the beaches of the Kenai Peninsula are no exception. This is especially true when targeting halibut from shore, where distance can determine whether you hook fish or go home empty. In this fishery, an average cast is often not enough.

Through structured instruction, you will develop the technique required to place your presentation where it needs to be. With proper mechanics, distance casting becomes a practical advantage, a competitive edge, and, a source of pride when you outcast everyone else on the beach.

General casting lessons are designed to help anglers cast farther and use surf casting equipment properly. The focus is practical distance — reaching water that cannot be accessed with an average cast.

Instruction combines clear explanation of casting theory with guided practice. Lessons are tailored to your goals. Anglers learn how a surf rod is meant to be loaded and worked, and how to generate the power needed to send out big baits effectively.

Lessons may be conducted in small groups, structured so each angler receives direct feedback and time on the rod.

Lessons are priced on an hourly basis. While one hour is available, most anglers benefit from a minimum of two to three hours to allow sufficient time for explanation, technical adjustment, and structured practice. Longer sessions can also be arranged.

Private Casting Lessons

Private, one-on-one instruction built around your specific distance casting goals.

Private casting lessons are conducted one-on-one and tailored to your current ability and goals. Whether you are new to distance casting or looking to refine advanced technique, instruction focuses on measurable improvement in distance, accuracy, and consistency.

A variety of rods and reels are available during the lesson. This allows you to test different setups and determine what best suits your build, casting style, and fishing needs.

You will leave with a clear understanding of what to work on and how to practice effectively.

Private lessons are billed hourly. Although one-hour sessions are offered, two to three hours are generally recommended to allow focused technical work and measurable progress toward your specific goals. Extended sessions can be scheduled as needed.
